Blog-tastic!

Blogging is something I've never done before now. I have read and followed many blogs for both personal and teaching reasons, but never created one of my own. I am now venturing into the world of blogs for a continuing education course I am currently taking. I will admit I was a bit overwhelmed at having to create a blog, but I am finding it easier to create than I thought it would be.

I can see the benefits of having a classroom blog in order to create a 21st Century classroom. A blog can allow students and parents to access information at anytime from school or home, helping to bridge the gap of communication and creating a sense of community. Students are able to engage on a social and technological level creating a non school like vibe while still learning. What student wouldn't rather read or create a blog then complete a worksheet?  Blogs can allow students to have a sense that they are a part of a bigger picture in the society and the world. They can become independent learners while developing better reading and writing skills.

Blogs can be a huge asset in the classroom for not only students, but teachers, staff, and parents alike. So what are you waiting for....start blogging!!
